Actress and TV personality preview Season 17 of the dancing competition<\/p>\n\n\n\n
By Lie Shia Ong<\/em> The stars return to the dance floor for Season 17 of\n\u201cDancing With the Stars\u201d on Monday, Sept. 16.<\/p>\n\n\n\n This season, the show will be one night only each week,\ninstead of carrying over into a second night of elimination results.<\/p>\n\n\n\n MSN TV spoke with two of the stars competing for the coveted mirror-ball trophy\u2014 \u201cGlee\u201d actress, Amber Riley and TV personality and scientist, Bill Nye\u2014on what they\u2019re doing to prepare for premiere night and the season ahead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n MSN TV: We\u2019re just\na few days away from the premiere. What can you tell us about how you\u2019re\nfeeling?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Bill Nye: Have you ever had a freight train coming at you and you\u2019re tied to the tracks?<\/p>\n\n\n\n [Laughs]. No, I\ncan\u2019t say that I have.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Bill Nye: Well, it\u2019s like that, it\u2019s like that.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Amber Riley: But you get saved right before the train\ngets there, right?<\/p>\n\n\n\n Bill Nye: Really? Well, that\u2019s good news. If you\u2019re not\nanxious, just quit doing it. So, I\u2019m excited. We\u2019re excited.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Amber Riley: Yes, very excited.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Bill Nye: It\u2019s going to be cool.<\/p>\n\n\n\n How long have you\nbeen preparing for the show? Bill, I read you\u2019ve actually been working with a\npersonal trainer?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Bill Nye: Oh, yeah, but that was a coinkidink. I started that a few months ago when I was concerned about my posture, which is not every good. It duck tailed\u2014merged\u2014of doing both at once. I mean, my partner, you guys, Tyne Stecklein is amazing. She\u2019s amazing and she\u2019s constantly pushing my posture around trying tog et me upright. So, the other thing is, she clearly has some kooky ideas about me\u2014you\u2019re not allowed to pick her up off the floor, but supporting her weight in various configurations. It\u2019s exciting. Amber, you\u2019re\npartnered with Derek Hough. How has he been training you and getting you ready?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Amber Riley: He\u2019s been wonderful. I feel very lucky that\nhe was chosen to be my partner. We didn\u2019t know who our partners were when we\nwalked into the door. There was this big reveal, and I was really, really\nnervous \u2018cause I didn\u2019t know who was going to be behind the door. I\u2019m so glad\nthat it\u2019s him. We have such a great chemistry. We do really well in our rehearsals.\nWe speak the same language. He knows how to get me to do something over and\nover again and keep rehearsals fresh and fun. That\u2019s a great talent to have\nbecause this is something very foreign to me, and it could easily be scary and\nterrifying, but he\u2019s making it fun. So, I\u2019m having the time of my life right\nnow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Can you both give\na little sneak peek of what your first dance routine is going to be on Monday?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Amber Riley: I\u2019m doing the cha-cha.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Bill Nye: I\u2019m doing the cha-cha.<\/p>\n\n\n\n So both of you are\ndoing the cha-cha!<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Bill Nye: Yeah, with different partners, I presume. At\ndifferent times.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Amber Riley: And different songs, I think.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Bill Nye: Yeah, that\u2019s right. The cha-cha is one of the\npassion dances. One of the Latin dances.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Amber Riley: A lot of shaking.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Bill Nye: There\u2019s some stuff going on, and there\u2019s the\nbeat and you\u2019re supposed to step on the foot on the floor with the beat and\nthings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Amber Riley: [Laughing].<\/p>\n\n\n\n Bill Nye: It\u2019s exciting. I can feel the pressure, but\nit\u2019s exciting!<\/p>\n\n\n\n So, Bill, of\ncourse you\u2019re known as \u201cThe Science Guy.\u201d Do you have any scientific tricks up\nyour sleeves to try and win the mirror-ball this season?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Bill Nye: Scientific tricks\u2014well, I\u2019ll say we will use\nthe scientific method to the extent possible. The stuff that does not work we\nwill do our best to eliminate, and the stuff that does work, we will do our\nbest to retain. And retaining all this new knowledge, these thousands of\ndetails, right?<\/p>\n\n\n\n Amber Riley: It\u2019s not about the dancing so much, it\u2019s about the learning what you\u2019re supposed to do while you\u2019re dancing. Like staying together and your posture. And don\u2019t lean back and look this way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Bill Nye: Ooh, that way?<\/p>\n\n\n\n Amber Riley: Yes, that\u2019s a lot of steps that you have to\nremember, and you have to make it look seamless and like you\u2019re not trying\nhard.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Bill Nye: [Breathes heavily].<\/p>\n\n\n\n Amber Riley: It\u2019s definitely a task.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Bill, I also read\nyou\u2019re not opposed to getting a spray tan to try and win this mirror-ball.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Bill Nye: I\u2019m not above what?<\/p>\n\n\n\n Amber Riley: A spray tan!<\/p>\n\n\n\n Bill Nye: What is with that? I have to say, my sister,\nwho is a charming woman, is fascinated with the spray tan. I guess, I don\u2019t\nwant to shock you, but we\u2019re wearing makeup right now! \u2026 the other day when we\ngot our team photo\u2014couple photos\u2014Tyne had quite a stripe \u2026 so I guess that\u2019s\nall part of the biz. But that\u2019s all part of the glamour, part of the bling, and\npart of the need\u2014the turn-up of the whole thing!<\/p>\n\n\n\n Well, good luck to\nboth of you.
