Fan questions and Season 3 spoilers <\/p>\n\n\n\n
By Lie Shia Ong<\/em> Neil Flynn has many acting credits to his name, but for\nthe past three seasons, we\u2019ve come to know him as Mike Heck, the patriarch of\nthe Heck household. Along with wife Frankie (Patricia Heaton), we\u2019ve sometimes\nseen him parent his three kids, Axl, Sue and Brick, in unorthodox ways, and he\u2019s\nalso not the most sensitive husband at times. But one thing is clear: Mike loves\nhis kids and he loves his wife, and the fact that he isn\u2019t perfect (and neither\nis the rest of the family) is what makes \u201cThe Middle\u201d so loveable to watch.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Mike has had several memorable episodes this season. He\u2019s\ntried to surprise Frankie with a brand new dishwasher for Christmas (but things\ndidn\u2019t go exactly like he planned). Then, just last episode, he was completely oblivious\nto his wife trying to make Valentine\u2019s Day a romantic one.<\/p>\n\n\n\n MSN TV spoke with Flynn about what\u2019s ahead for one of\nAmerica\u2019s favorite TV families this season, and why he thinks it\u2019s important\nfor a family show like \u201cThe Middle\u201d to be on the air.<\/p>\n\n\n\n MSN TV: Do you\nlike the fact that, despite all the shenanigans on \u201cThe Middle,\u201d you and\nPatricia Heaton portray a realistic married couple with all the ups and downs?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Neil Flynn: Yes, that\u2019s something that I particularly\nlike about the show, that everything\u2019s not perfect in their world, so they\u2019re a\nbelievable couple\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n How many more\nepisodes of \u201cThe Middle\u201d can we expect this season, and are there any spoilers\nyou can give us?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Well, there\u2019s a huge plane crash coming up. No wait, that\u2019s\nnot our show. That wouldn\u2019t make any sense! [Laughs] How many do we have? There\u2019s\nprobably a good 10 left to air. As far as scoops go, I\u2019ll have to think about\nthat because the episodes kind of run together in my mind once we\u2019ve finished\nthem. I know that Brick heads to a spelling bee for a second time. Sue heads to\na Justin Bieber concert. We worked with Ed Asner this week. It\u2019s nice to have a\nguest stop by\u2026 It\u2019s always fun to have them come by and actually meet them and\nwork with them. I guess Whoopi Goldberg is going to be eventually [stopping by]\nas well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n How fun has it\nbeen to watch the Heck kids grow up as the show has evolved?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n It\u2019s great. I think the kids are all great characters and\nthe actors playing the kids are great people, so it\u2019s all positive. I think it\u2019s\na real strength of our show that the children\u2019s characters are so solid and\nplayed so well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Some of your fans\ntweeted and sent Facebook questions for you. Chris wants to know why is it so\nhard for Mike to smile?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n [Laughs]. I think it was a surprise to Mike to hear that he didn\u2019t smile very much. I think other people think he\u2019s more serious than he thinks he is, but he\u2019s just a pragmatic guy that 90 percent of the day feels just fine, and if something good happens, then he\u2019ll smile. But in the meantime, he\u2019ll just say in the middle of the emotional road.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Tiffany wants to\nknow if the Hecks are anything like your real-life family, and what has your\nfavorite episode been so far this season?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Wow, she throws in two questions. OK! The Hecks are not\nfar from the family I grew up in. There are some similarities there. I tend to\nlike the holiday episodes. I think those are really written well and we\u2019re\nusually all together, and I like scenes where the whole family\u2019s all together;\nso an holiday episode.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Any message you\nwant to send out to the fans of the show?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n I appreciate the loyalty and the affection fans have had\nfor the show.
